Brie the mouse lives in a cheese shop with other mice, but they don’t like him – he’s not like them, he njoys telling stories and daydreaming, and prefers bread to cheese. When he ventures out of his nest one night, he is caught by Gorgonzola the shop cat, and in order to distract the cat from eating him, Brie starts telling a story, a proper fairy tale with magic, villains and dragons. The story is so good, that eventually Gorgonzola waits every day for Brie, not to eat him, but to hear the next part of the tale. Throughout the book we are actually reading two stories – the made-up fairy tale that Brie is telling, and the story of the budding friendship between the cat and the mouse. This is a stunningly illlustarted novel by Helen Cooper, most suitable for ages 6 – 10, and is a proper visual and magical delight for any reader.
